Stitch Magazine Focuses on Wool for Winter 2012

One of our favorite magazines at the Woolen Mill Store is Stitch Magazine... and their winter issue focuses on something near and dear to our hearts: WOOL!

Our own quilting queen Michelle has a project featured in this issue -- a gorgeous EcoWise quilt inspired by a 1950s coffee cup -- but she's not the only familiar face appearing in Stitch Magazine. Crafty mama Susan Beal contributed a pair of articles, and pattern designer Daniela Caine has a laptop sleeve done in Pendleton wool.

Stitch contributing editor Linda Griepentrog has a how-to piece on sewing a wool coat, and a poncho project using our Melton and EcoWise wools.

Check out the Featured Fabrics tab at the top of the page for more information on the woolerriffic Stitch winter 2012 issue and some of the Pendleton fabrics appearing within the pages.

Good morning, WoolFans!

The mills have re-opened, and the Pendleton truck has returned. Almost every Thursday evening, we get a delivery of scrap. On Friday mornings, we open up the boxes and let you know what arrived.

Creative Customers: Mel's Captain's Chair

We've been pestering creative customer Mel for pictures of this chair ever since he purchased the fabric.

The chair makeover includes new springs and cushioning in the seat, too!

Mel used our Walking Rock fabric in red and black to reupholster this awesome rolling captain's chair. In another life, this chair served in a waiting room. We like it much better this way!

A close-up of the seat back. Mel used upholstery tacks with a cross-hatched texture.
We absolutely *love* seeing what our creative customers come up with. If you've done a project with our wool fabric, scraps, or other craft supplies, please let us know! Bring your masterpiece by the store and we'll take pictures, send us an email, or leave a link in comments.

This week's Truck Report is actually a TruckLESS Report, as the mills have been closed this week for their annual maintenance.

Scrappy Project: Quilted Colorblock Hot Pads

If you're the sort of person who doesn't save bits and scraps of favorite projects... well, we're a little jealous. But if you've got a pile of scraps looking for a good project, here's an idea to get you started: Quilted Colorblock Hot Pads by Making Nice in the Midwest.

Hot pads are a perfect project for any wool scraps you might have (or any smaller pieces from our scrap bins at the Woolen Mill Store) because wool is a wonderful insulator.

August Half Slice: Jerome Sham Fabric

A Half Slice of Pendleton fabric is perfectly sized for smaller projects like aprons, purses, crib blankets, and book covers. Each month, we're offering a new Half Slice (approximately 32x36" but sizes do vary based on where the pattern repeats) for your crafting pleasure.

Check out our August Half Slice -- Jerome Sham Fabric -- in project form. We whipped up this cute little messenger bag using a Half Slice of fabric, a few buttons, and some binding.

For August, ALL our Half Slices are just $30 each. We've got a few pieces left over from the last few months, so click the half slice tag at the end of the post to take a look into Half Slice history.

Flowered Swim Cap Makeover

Here's a quick, easy, and fun summery project: transform a retro flowered swim cap into a cute little clutch bag!

Inspiration and step-by-step tutorial with pics from Don't MIS It.

If you can't get your hands on a swim cap, it's easy peasy to add colorful, cute felt (or fabric) flowers to any clutch for a similar effect.
