Creative Customers: Kerry's Historic Riding Habit

Creative Customer Kerry sent us this picture from the Washington's Birthday Parade 2012 in Alexandria, Virginia. She is the lovely lady on the left, sporting an 18th century riding habit made from our melton wool. Melton is what we call a jacket-weight fabric, nice and warm!

She even threw in a little trivia for the history buffs: Alexandria was the closest town to Mount Vernon (George Washington's home) in General Washington's day.

We still have a pretty good amount of header in our $3 per pound and $5 per pound bins from last week's truck, too.

Hula Hoop Weaving Project

Just in time for hula hoop season: an awesome rug weaving project that uses a hula hoop as the loom and old t-shirts as the material!

Check it out at Disney's FamilyFun site. There's a great tutorial with step-by-step directions and pictures.

Don't have a hula hoop handy? You can often find them at your local dollar store this time of year. And if you're low on old t-shirts, hit the thrift stores or grab multi-pack undershirts in whatever colors tickle your fancy.

More Four-Legged Customers

We're all animal lovers here at the Woolen Mill Store... and we're happy to have well-mannered, leashed pets stop by for a visit!
Levi
They just might have to pose for pictures. (Click on the "pets" tag at the bottom of this post to see more of our furry friends.)

Milo

And of course, they'll probably have to be cuddled, petted, and adored by the staff.

Samson

We've got lots of ideas for fun projects you can make for your pets -- or the other pet lovers in your life. Lots of dogs and cats we know absolutely *love* the crocheted wool rugs we make in class. Wooly worms make great braided tug-a-rope toys. It's quick and easy to cover an old pillow in a big fabric remnant to make a comfy bed.

Want more pet project ideas? Come talk to us!

June Half Slice: Big Thunder Scarlet

We've pulled another page off the calendar, which means it's time for a new Half Slice of Pendleton fabric.

What's a Half Slice? Our jacquard fabrics are 64" wide... but sometimes that's just too big for your crafting needs. We like to make small stuff, too! So we take a one yard piece of that 64" fabric and cut it in half to make two 36x32 slices.

Our vivid Big Thunder fabric in scarlet is June's Half Slice. We used it to make up a Pendleton Apron -- the same sort you'll see on the Woolen Mill Store staff every day -- with some fancy details like an extra pocket and a loop for your scissors or pens. Grab a free pattern while you're here!
