Make It With Wool Week of Fun

Thanks to everyone who came out to greet this year's Make It With Wool winners. We had a great time meeting new friends and seeing old friends. Our two friendly lambs greeted everyone who entered and made a great background "soundtrack" for the evening.
We had lots of great memorabilia from the last 62 years of the program.

Join us on Facebook and see video clips from the evening and interviews with past winners.

We also officially opened the expanded tapestry gallery. Stop by to view the beautiful works of art woven at our Pendleton mill.

Join Us To Welcome This Year's Winners

Friday, June 26 from 5:30 - 8:30
Be sure to mark your calendars for the welcoming reception for this year's contest winners. We thought that it would be fitting to have as our welcoming team the two friendly lambs that greeted all the kids last Saturday at our Make-n-Take event. We'll also have lots of new displays from the Pendleton archives and refreshments during the reception.

We are getting more garments each day to add to the display of past winners of the Make It With Wool contest. Stop in this week to see them at your leisure. White museum gloves are available so you can examine the fine craftsmanship on them.

Join us in celebrating the 62-year history of the Make It With Wool contest and welcome the 2009 winners and MIWW directors:

Marie Lehfeldt -- Lavina, MT -- National MIWW Coordinator
Maureen Krebs -- Ione, OR -- Oregon MIWW Director
Kathy Holter -- Jefferson, MD -- 2009 National MIWW Adult Ambassador
Meredith Olds -- Manhattan, KS -- 2009 National MIWW Senior Ambassador
Marisa Linton -- Mt. Olive, NC -- 2009 National MIWW Junior Ambassador
Carrie Holter -- Jefferson, MD -- 2009 National MIWW Junior Runner-Up

Schedule for Saturday, June 20

Things are looking great for our Opening Day of Make It With Wool Week. The two lambs will be here by 10 am. I'm told they are very friendly and will be happy to have the kids' attention. After you visit the sheep come in and learn something new.

Members of the Weaver's Guild and the Rug Hooking Guild will be on hand to demonstrate their arts. We will also have "Make-n-Take" stations for kids and adults to try out Wet Felting, Needle Felting, and Weaving.

If you come before noon you can watch "Extreme Knitting". What can I say? You take wool selvage, two 2x4s, round them into #200 (or something) needles and knit yourself up a huge project. Not for the timid - this is manly, extreme knitting! Come watch and catch the creative spirit.

Also on the schedule are hourly Sewing With Wool clinics lead by Cynthia Scott. Topics such as these will be covered:
How to press wool
Cleaning tips
How to machine felt wool fabrics
Designing with Pendleton fabrics
How to finish seams
Quilting tips
Felt binding techniques

Also on hand will be Joanne Surerus from our Education and Testing Department to help answer your questions.
